Jan began with a bachelors degree in business administration and over 12 years with Portland's largest commercial contractor, Hoffman Construction Company, where she learned the ropes of project management, estimating and field office management. In 1990 Jan started Tryon Creek Construction out of her own less than perfect home building experience. She has been focusing on residential construction, having planned and completed numerous homes for satisfied clients throughout the Portland area ever since.

Jan received the Certified Master Builder® designation in 2002. This certification is earned by only a select group of homebuilders who have demonstrated the highest levels of professionalism through passing tough scrutiny, completing classes, and passing academic testing by the State of Oregon.

Jan is committed to the building community and strives for the construction industry's improvement by serving as an officer of the Home Builders Association of Metro Portland. She is slated to become President of the organization in 2014. Since 2004 she has been an active member of the Oregon Home Builders Association. Jan has also sat on building code panels and advisory committees, is active in her church and neighborhood association. Jan has been appointed by the Governor to a 4-year term on the Oregon Residential and Manufactured Structures Board where she will advise the Director of the State Building Codes Division and the Board on technical and scientific issues.

Many have worked with Jan from her first new home construction project and continue to be part of her team.

Since 1990 Tryon Creek Construction has been building custom homes and remodeling existing residences.

Having Tryon Creek Construction build our home was the chance to have our design exactly the way we wanted. The entire process was enjoyable because Jan runs an honest company, full of integrity and is very thorough.
